Remove the background from a photo

The first time you use it, your browser downloads the AI model (up to about 25 MB) from this site. After that it works from your browser's cache.

    How to remove a background

    1. Choose "Person / portrait" or "Object / product". 2. Choose or drop a photo. 3. Wait a few seconds, then drag the slider to compare and download. The result keeps the full resolution of your photo.

    Which option should I pick?

    "Person / portrait" uses MODNet, a model made for people, and handles hair and shoulders well. "Object / product" uses U²-Netp, a small general model for the main object in the picture, such as a mug, a shoe or a plant. If one gives a poor result, try the other.

    How fast is it?

    On a recent laptop or phone a photo takes a few seconds. Older phones can take longer. The first time, your browser also downloads the model files, then keeps them in its cache.

    Tips for good results

    Use a photo where the subject is clearly separated from the background and well lit. Busy backgrounds, glass, smoke and fine hair against a similar colour are the hardest cases. Choose "White background JPG" for online shops and marketplaces.

    Yes: no credits, no account and no watermark.

    Who made the AI models?

    MODNet (Ke et al.) and U²-Net (Qin et al.), open-source models released by their authors under the Apache 2.0 licence. This site only runs them.

    Are my photos uploaded?

    No. The model runs in your browser.
